Tasneem Motala starts her term as the head of the Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management and Administration

Tasneem Motala starts her term as the head of the Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management and Administration (PGDip BMA) at the University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB) on 1 June 2019. Motala is also a senior lecturer in Operations Management at the business school.

Asked for comment on her new role, she said: “I am enthusiastic about the new role and looking forward to it.

“I also look forward to the challenges that come with the role. We have a fantastic faculty so I am confident that there is a strong team that’s going to be working together with me to achieve everything that we need to achieve.”

She says she is very grateful to Prof Nicolene Wesson (departing head) for laying a very strong foundation to build on.

““We want to make sure that we deliver a transformative student experience.”- Tasneem Motala, programme head of Stellenbosch Business School’s PGDip BMA

“With business education it is always important to make sure that the programme is relevant to what the students require; what the market requires; what business requires and we will continue to do that.

“So whether that means changes on programme level or module level, we will make those changes. Another focus is to make sure that we deliver a transformative student experience,” she says.

According to her, the PGDip BMA is an essential programme for a number of reasons. “At a broad level, it teaches the critical skills that are required regardless of what area of business you are in. Whether you come from a corporate, non-profit organisation or you are an entrepreneur, it is giving you those skills you need to be confident in the workplace.”

Motala says at a programme level you can do the PGDip BMA as a stand-alone programme. “When you only have a year to commit to your studies, the PGDip BMA will still give you the business knowledge and skills that you require.

“But it has been designed as a feeder programme into our MBA programme as well. Perhaps if you come without an honours or four-year degree, it gives you the perfect entry point as long as you maintain the correct grades for admission straight into the MBA,” she says.
