Patrick Buthelezi

Economist at Sanlam Investment Management

Patrick is currently working as an economist for the Sanlam Specialised finance business within Sanlam Investment Group. He joined Sanlam Investment in 2006 as part of the Investment Professional Development Program (IPDP).

Patrick studied at the University of KwaZulu Natal and holds a BCom in Economics and an Honours degree in Economics. He has over 15 years of experience analysing both local and international macroeconomic environments. The analysis feeds into the investment process. This includes but is not limited to, forecasting key macroeconomic variables. He analyses and explain high-frequency data and economic trends. He also makes daily and monthly economic presentations to the investment team. Furthermore, he provides economic analysis of African countries where Sanlam business operates. He interacts with policymakers in forums like the South African Reserve Bank round table. He engages with both domestic and international brokers. He has presented at conferences on topics such as fiscal policy and the economy. He also interacts with the media.
