Our Lions, a panel of seasoned investors, will assess the potential of these enterprising ideas against the rest. They will also provide insightful pitch training as our candidates progress through the competition.

Come and witness the top 5 pitch LIVE to the Lions after overcoming the grueling preliminary rounds. With over R100 000 of prizes up for grabs, the idea that conquers all will take home the grand prize of R50 000.

Daniel Strauss

Stocks & Strauss

Daniel is a Private Equity and Venture Capital entrepreneur and holds a B.Eng. (Industrial Engineering) and MBA from the University of Stellenbosch Business School.

Through constant interaction with various businesses as a shareholder and director, Daniel was able to gain insights into the various methods and mindsets employed by entrepreneurs, investors and consultants to ensure maximum growth to all stakeholders involved. Today, he is a husband, father of two and best selling author.

Anita Nel

Chief Director: Innovation and Business Development at Stellenbosch University

Anita is an experienced technology transfer professional with her roots in technology innovation and venture capital stretching as far back as 1998. She started her career in technology with Thawte Consulting, a digital security firm and, transitioning through the company’s acquisition by Verisign in 2000, moved to HBD Venture Capital Fund.  At HBD Anita was involved in investing in various technology start-ups before taking up the challenge of joining and restructuring Innovus, the technology transfer office of Stellenbosch University.

Since she started at Stellenbosch University, Anita has grown Innovus to become one of the leading university technology transfer offices in Africa and in the process established herself as a thought leader in the industry. As part of this journey, Anita has established the highly successful LaunchLab Business incubator at Stellenbosch and was instrumental in starting and raising the University Technology Fund (UTF) that provides funding for new technology startups at South African universities.

As a well-respected contributor to the international technology transfer fraternity, Anita currently serves on the ATTP adjudication panel for RTTP applications and holds several directorships on boards of young and upcoming technology companies.  She holds a master’s degree in Psychology as well as a post graduate diploma in Education and a Bachelor’s degree in Science.

Mahommed Bobat

Jozi Angels

Mahommed Bobat is a chartered accountant and have been in the investment banking space for 15 years and went independent in 2016 performing freelance corporate finance work. He started working at Jozi Angels in 2019 and has performed several due diligences in the start up space. He has also sat as a judge on several platforms.

Lovuyo Rani

Founder and CEO of Silulo Ulutho Technologies

Lovuyo’s entreprenerial spirit was nurtured from a young age growing up in Queenstown, South Africa. He founded Silulo Ulutho Technologies in 2004. HIs award winning IT services company now has over 46 stores in townships and rural areas in the Western, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, 220 full-time staff members, and 18 franchisees.

He completed his BTech Degree in Commercial Education – Economics and obtained a degree at the Cape Pensinsula University of Technology (CPUT); and the Associate in Management (AIM) Certificate from the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business; and later the Leadership for System Change: Delivering Social Impact at Scale Certificate from Harvard Kennedy School of Business.

He was named one of the JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World (JCI TOYP) in the category of business, economics and/or entrepreneurial accomplishment; he was also featured in Forbes Magazine’s March in 2014; and the Schwab Foundation Social Entrepreneur of the year in 2016.
