Development Finance as a tool for economic transformation – the opportunities and challenges

  • EVENT
  • 14 JUN 2018
  • ACCRA

Development finance institutions (DFIs) and programmes have emerged as alternative financing mechanisms for economic development and transformation around the world and have received significant attention in Africa. However, over the years they have performed generally very poorly compared to other financial institutions such as commercial banks.

While the managements of DFIs and programmes are generally criticised for their poor performance the nature and problems of DFIs are poorly understood. The essence of this presentation is to help participants gain insight into the challenges and nature of development finance and to highlight the key role of leadership for their successful management.

Join USB’s Prof Meshach Aziakpono for this presentation that will enable participants to:

  • Have a clear understanding of what development finance institutions and programmes are;
  • Differentiate between the operations of development finance institutions and other financial institutions like commercial banks;
  • Clearly understand why we need development finance;
  • Distinguish the key challenges in managing DFIs and programmes; and
  • Articulate the role of leadership in successfully managing a DFI.
