Dear USB alumni,

It really feels as if the year has already run beneath our feet!

Here at USB we already welcomed most of our students in the various programmes. We are glad to say that we again are attracted top candidates and were able to exceed our planned enrolment target with just over 5%. There is a marked increase in the number of international and exchange students. This increases the diversity in our class-rooms and is confirmation of USB’s growing international reputation.

We are very pleased that USB attained full term re-accreditation from both AMBA and AACSB. The peer reviews took place last year, and we are once again the only school on the African continent with full term triple- crown status and one of only about 80 schools globally.

This year will bring exciting upgrade of our facilities to the tune of R114m here at Bellville Park Campus. There will be some inconvenience, but the end-result will bring us a modern cafeteria and custom-built classrooms with technical facilities.

On the research front, we are happy with the high level of research outputs, the number of doctoral graduates and – especially – with the excellent through-put with MBA treatises. Gone are the days that a significant proportion of our students had to delay their graduation.

We are sad to lose two of our women academic staff members, Prof Annabel Vanroose (Development Finance) and Dr Heidi Raubenheimer (MBA), but their career paths take an upward turn and we wish them all the best.

As I write this, our country is in the midst of an important political leadership transition. I am on record in stating that the former president has lost his moral authority to lead. USB will play its small part to rebuild confidence and hope in South Africa business.

Receive USB’s best wishes for the year. Watch out for alumni events in your region. And visit us whenever possible!
