USB Alumni AGM     15 Nov       Eastern Cape

Join us at this Business Networking and AGM where Dr Cobus Oberholster will discuss megatrends shaping the future of agriculture in Sub-Saharan Africa towards 2055.

More about the topic

The agricultural sector in Sub-Saharan Africa present itself as a multi-dimensional and complex sector that fulfils different roles and functions, especially in rural communities. This continues to create negative perceptions regarding the sector’s perceived riskiness, its contribution to economic growth, and the sector’s expected development role.

Key stakeholders, however, is not powerless to confront the future of the sector.  The course of its future can be changed, as long as the aim of our explorations is to identify possible disruptions and to reduce uncertainty. Seven megatrends, which have a high probability of being associated with sustainable agricultural production and development in Sub-Saharan Africa towards 2055, will be presented and discussed. Four authentic alternative futures, which illustrate how conditions for agriculture and agricultural financing can unfold and change over the next 40 years, will also be presented.

We look forward to hosting you!
