USB and Tambo Indaba Report

On 20 August 2015, the University of Stellenbosch Business School and the Oliver & Adelaide Tambo Foundation hosted a discussion titled: The National Development Plan (NDP): Resolving South Africa’s structural economic impediments to achieve a higher growth trajectory. This report, compiled by USB’s Prof André Roux, provides a summary of what has been discussed during the event. The speakers: Prof Mohammad Karaan, member of the National Planning Commission and academic at Stellenbosch University (A contextual perspective); Prof Charles Adjasi, Head of Development Finance programmes at USB (Alternative options for our productivity challenges); Prof André Roux, Director of the Institute for Futures Research at USB (leading the panel discussion); Prof Stan du Plessis, Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences at Stellenbosch University (Fiscal sustainability – some policy alternatives); and Prof Ronelle Burger, researcher on Socioeconomic Policy at Stellenbosch University (Effective government spending and the importance of service delivery).
