Centre joins London-based International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC)

The Centre for Corporate Governance in Africa at the University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB) has joined BSD Consulting in becoming a founding training partner of the London-based International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC).

The IIRC announced on 5 May 2016 that the Swiss-headquartered BSD Consulting will be its first Integrated Reporting (IR) Foundation Partner for the delivery of the IR Training Programme for business managers worldwide. The Centre for Corporate Governance in Africa will serve as the content development partner of BSD, a longstanding international certified training provider of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

"We look forward to joining the global network of BSD and the IIRC in providing basic and advanced management training in integrated reporting, building on the extensive experience of South African corporates in issuing annual integrated reports as required by the Johannesburg Stock Exchange," said Dr Cornis van der Lugt, Senior Research Fellow of the Centre for Corporate Governance, who leads the development of the training material.

"Managers inside leading global corporations are challenged to define how their businesses create value with an integrated and long-term perspective. This includes bridging the gap between financial accounting and sustainability accounting. It also raises the bar in what we expect of directors and executives in delivering quality corporate governance," he added.

"We are delighted to be part of this historic partnership," said Dr Daniel Malan, director of the Centre. "South Africa prides itself on being a leader in the field of integrated reporting and we look forward to offering a high-quality training programme in association with BSD, not only in South Africa but across the African continent."

With offices in Europe and the Americas, BSD Consulting alongside the Centre will be the first of a range of organisations – including consultancies, academic institutions, professional associations and training providers – that will help to roll out the new IIRC training programme in 2016. The Centre is also a member of the newly created IIRC academic network. The first South African training programmes will be offered in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
