Gina Barbieri appointed as Senior Specialist

The Africa Centre for Dispute Settlement at the USB is proud to announce that Gina Barbieri, deputy head, has been appointed as a Senior Specialist to manage the office of the Compliance Advisor/Ombudsman (CAO) of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in Washington, DC. The CAO is the independent accountability mechanism for the private sector arms of the World Bank Group, which includes the (IFC) and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA). The CAO responds to complaints from people affected by IFC/MIGA support projects in a manner that is fair, objective and constructive with the aim of improving social and environmental outcomes on the ground, and fostering greater public accountability of IFC and MIGA. Gina commences her new appointment in November 2011. Gina has played a key role in the development and positioning of the Centre, for which we'll always be grateful. We wish her well in her new role.

 

New faces at the ACDS

We are fortunate to have secured the services with effect from October 2010 of Prof Brian Ganson as a senior researcher at the ACDS. Brian completed his undergraduate studies at Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (Tufts University, USA) and the University of Michigan and his JD (cum laude) at Harvard Law School. Apart from teaching and research, Brian completed numerous consulting and other project assignments for the UN and other international bodies worldwide, including Sudan, Eastern Europe, Asia and Latin America.
