USB Alumni Association

The USB's alumni play an active part in the School's activities, including the Annual Gala Dinner to raise funds for the USB Alumni Association's Future Fund for MBA bursaries and special projects.

The USB fosters close relationships with alumni through the USB Alumni Association and its branches all over South Africa, in greater Africa and overseas. We offer our alumni continued learning opportunities, networking events, workshops, the Leader's Angle speaker series, an e-newsletter, a magazine, a research journal and a web portal.

Benefits

The aim of the USB Alumni Association is to:

  • Encourage continuous involvement with the USB and its activities
  • Promote networking among members through various events
  • Encourage the continued learning and growth of its members via programmes, electives, workshops, talks and access to its information centre (where fees are involved, alumni usually pay a discounted alumni rate)
  • Encourage active participation in USB Alumni Association activities and association with the USB brand.

Engagement with USB alumni

The USB has created various ways in which its alumni can stay in touch and become involved in its activities:

  • Continued learning: The USB provides learning and networking opportunities for its alumni through MBA elective courses, MDevFin electives, PhD and refresher courses, usually at discounted rates.
  • Advice and input: The School's alumni have the opportunity to give feedback and input to the school through the USB Alumni Association's Exco and other forums.
  • Mentorship: Alumni are invited to make themselves available as mentors to current students.
  • Publications: All USB and USB-ED alumni receive the biannual publication USB Agenda. Another publication, USB Leaders' Lab, provides an exclusive source of research and insights generated by USB students and academics, and experts associated with the USB. Alumni may request to receive a paper copy of USB Leaders' Lab.
  • E-newsletter: Alumni receive regular e-newsletters with local and international news about the USB, its people, upcoming events, leadership, research and more.
  • Leader's Angle: These monthly high-level talks are an outflow of the USB's strong focus on leadership development in its programmes and research. Local and international business leaders and specialists are invited to speak at these events.
  • Annual Fundraising Gala Dinner: Hosted by the Alumni Association, this is the USB's grand event of the year. Its aim is to raise money for the Future Fund for MBA bursaries and financial assistance to students for international exposure (MBA study tour) and other special projects.
  • Reinvesting in the community: USB alumni are involved in various social initiatives, including the Management Programme for Non-profit Organisations (NPOs), which NPO managers may attend at reduced cost.
  • Regional committees and Exco of the USB Alumni Association: The USB invites its alumni to become involved in the USB Alumni Association's regional committees and to organise networking events in these regions.

Membership

Graduates of the USB's degree programmes and USB-ED's comprehensive management programmes automatically qualify for life membership of the USB Alumni Association upon completion of their studies. Membership is free of charge.

USB Alumni Association's Future Fund

The Future Fund forms part of the USB's social engagement programme. The proceeds of the USB's fundraising events are paid into the Future Fund in order to provide bursaries and other forms of financial support to deserving students, and to support community initiatives.
