USB Gala Dinner
This is the USB's grand event of the year. Its aim is to raise money for the Future Fund which provides bursaries for MBA studies and other forms of financial support for USB students. The Gala Dinner is held under the auspices of the USB Alumni Association and patronage of alumnus Francois Groepe, CEO of Media24. Highlights of the evening include a keynote address by a prominent business person and the announcement of the USB's Alumnus of the Year.
Various prominent people have graced this event with their keynote addresses:
- 2006: Maria Ramos, Group Chief Executive of Transnet Ltd
- 2007: Dr Trevor Manuel, Minister of Finance
- 2008: Chief Justice Pius Langa.
The USB alumni who received the Alumnus of the Year award in recent years were:
- 2006: Laetitia van Dyk, former Barclays PLC human resources director: UK Banking
- 2007: Ras Myburgh, CEO of Kumba Iron Ore; and Marlene le Roux, director of Audience Development and Education at Artscape in Cape Town
- 2008: Pieter Uys, CEO of Vodacom
